Detailed Itinerary of Great Ocean Road Sunset Tour
We give you a lift to one of the world’s spectacular drives along the coasts of southern Australia — the Great Ocean Road. Stand under the Memorial Arch to take some memorable photos of the historic archway, the entry pass to the famous war memorial in honor of the servicemen who fought in the First World War. Try some samples of Victorian sweets at a chocolate factory along the way to the pretty resort towns of Anglesea, Lorne, and Apollo Bay where you get a close look at the Australian wildlife. Then we spend the rest of the day soaking in colors of the scenic limestone coast at the iconic 12 Apostles.
We depart Melbourne at lunchtime heading straight to the Great Ocean Road, and then have a short stopover at the Memorial Arch that was erected in 1937. Pose for a photograph or two while learning about the history of the Great Ocean Road. The Australian national heritage enlisted memorial was first completed in 1932.
Then we drive along the scenic Great Ocean Road and enjoy the stunning southern Australian coastal vistas. As you bask in the experience of the amazing scenery of pristine beaches, rugged surf, green vegetation, and lush forests, be always on the lookout for some wild animals. You may spot some kangaroos and wallabies having fun on the side streets.
We stop by at the Great Ocean Road Chocolaterie and Ice Creamery and sample the best of their handcrafted chocolate and ice cream creations. Indulge your sweet tooth as you watch their chocolatiers at work, practicing their craft with passion, love, and dedication. Enjoy their sweet relishes and sugary delights. You may shop some goodies for your loved ones back home. You can also try their cup of hot chocolate or ask the barista to hand you a cup of freshly brewed coffee.
Still high on chocolates, which is one of the delights of Great Ocean Road sunset tour, we wind our way through the beautiful coastal towns of Lorne and Anglesea heading to the picturesque Apollo Bay. We’ll have a quick break in this resort town located on the eastern side of the Cape Otway. You can take some photos of the scenic town’s natural beauty of surfs and beaches, of lush vegetation and tall trees.
From there, we are going to have a nature walk through the Great Otway National Park. Explore nature in its rawest and wildest. Be dwarfed by the towering ancient eucalyptus trees and spot the cuddly koalas lazily resting on their branches. Look out for the animals roaming in the wild — kangaroos, wallabies, possums, wombats, and much more in their natural surroundings. Listen to the sound of nature while watching some colorful parrots and other lovely birds. Feast your eyes on the beauty of the wildflowers and many other varieties of native plants.
We then head to Port Campbell National Park to feel the sun, breathe the salty ocean breeze and marvel at the towering limestone stacks. Enjoy the texture of the sandy beach as we stroll down the quaint Loch Ard Gorge. Listen to the stories of bravery and tragedy and learn about Australia’s famous shipwreck and other maritime tragedies in the area. Delight in the stunning beach views, majestic cliffs, and roaring surfs.
Reserve the best for last as we spend the rest of the day witnessing the spectacular changing of colors of the sky and the sea. Watch the sun slowly sinking behind the 12 Apostles, which is the essence of the Great Ocean Road Sunset Tour. The soul of this wonderful excursion lies in the unforgettable experience of witnessing the union of sun and sea and the colors above the charming scenery of limestone cliffs. A landscape and a seascape joined together by the sun’s changing hues.
Try to resist your urge to snap that photo and capture the best moment of your trip to the Australian hemisphere. Hold the sun in the palm of your hand and creatively push the giant stone formations so you see the sun’s beautiful smile. Yes, you can display your skills at doing some camera tricks and simply have fun.
The Great Ocean Road Sunset Tour is guaranteed to be an adventure filled with excitement, unforgettable moments, and beautiful scenery. As the darkness consumes the colors of the dusk we head back to Melbourne. Along the way, we stop by the small west Victorian district of Colac for dinner (at own expense).
Inclusive of the tour package are park entry fees, chocolate tastings, and travel along with our hospitable, friendly, and professional tour guide. Our experienced driver picks you up from your inner city hotel and drops you off at the same hotel after the trip.
